Atheism is the default position: It's religion that is made up. A child won't invent the concept of a god for itself, any more than it would independently come up with Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. It's all to do with indoctrination by parents, schools, priests, imams etc Go Britain, go! In Britain, those who profess no-religion have risen from 31 to 43% between 1983 and 2008. In 2009, this was found to have further risen to 51%. The Ipsos MORI poll in 2003 reported that 18% were "a practicing member of an organized religion". The Tearfund Survey in 2007 found that only 7% of the population considered themselves as practicing Christians. Ten per cent attend church weekly and two-thirds had not gone to church in the past year. So if 2/3rds of the 7% of practicing Christians couldn't even be bothered to go to church then I'd safely suggest that the UK is not a Christian nation. Amen to that! I support the idea of saying this, but it may not really be true. Research seems to indicate that creating Gods is pretty much the default position for our nervous system...we think in terms of agents and assign agency to everything...and invent agents where we dont see one...I am not saying it's right.
